Garden Seeds: Practice Active Listening

Focus on practicing active listening.

Begin your morning with the intention to truly hear and understand others throughout the day.

When engaging in conversations, give the person your full attention.

Put away distractions like your phone or other tasks.

Make eye contact and show that you are present and engaged.

Listen to understand, not just to respond.

Pay attention to the person’s words, tone, and body language.

Reflect on what they are saying without immediately planning your response.

Show that you are listening by nodding, smiling, or giving other non-verbal cues.   Occasionally summarize or paraphrase what the person has said to ensure you understand and to show that you are following along.

Ask open-ended questions to encourage the person to elaborate and share more.

This demonstrates your genuine interest and helps deepen the conversation.

Avoid interrupting or finishing the person’s sentences.

Give them the space to express their thoughts fully before you share your own.

At the end of the day, reflect on your active listening practice.

Notice the impact it had on your interactions and relationships.

Celebrate the deeper connections and understanding you fostered through attentive listening.

Practicing active listening enriches your relationships and enhances your ability to connect with others on a deeper level.

Stay attentive, stay curious, and let active listening guide your day.
